Met Eireann forecast rainy Christmas Eve as Santa Claus gets ready to leave the North Pole

Met Eireann has forecast a rainy and mild Christmas Eve as Santa gears up to leave the North Pole.

There will be fog and rain in some areas this morning, but that will become drier in the afternoon.

Met Eireann's forecast reads: "This morning, Christmas Eve, will be cloudy with some lingering fog in parts of the north.

"Rain in the southwest will slowly move across the country, reaching Ulster in the afternoon. Breezy at times too with moderate to fresh southeast winds, strong at times over Ulster.

"Quickly becoming drier and brighter in the south and later in central areas as the rain clears. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Rain will return to the southwest later in the evening."

Tonight will also remain mild with some patchy rain.

The forecast reads: "Tonight, rain over Ulster and north Leinster will become patchier and clear northwards early in the night but outbreaks of showery rain in the southwest will extend across the country with heavy falls in places.

"Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, continuing strong at times over Ulster."
