Met Eireann forecast no end in sight as Ireland's scorching weather to last for another week at least

Ireland's scorching weather will continue right through the weekend and next week with no let up forecast.

Met Eireann are predicting temperatures in the mid-20s to last until next Thursday at least and conditions will stay "above normal" even after that.

Today, Thursday, is the hottest day of the year so far in parts of the country with temperatures reaching 29C in isolated areas.

However it will come as bad news to farmers that there will be no rain in the period from now until the end of next week.

Each day over the weekend should see the mercury rising into the mid-20s with onshore breezes making eastern and southern parts of the country a bit cooler.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Tomorrow will be dry and sunny, although the sunshine may turn a little hazy at times.

"Highest afternoon temperatures will range between 20 and 24 or 25 degrees in most places, but it will be slightly cooler in southern and eastern coastal areas due to a moderate south to southeast breeze.

"Dry and sunny Saturday, although the sunshine will be a little hazy at times. It will be warm in most places with highest temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees, but again it will be cooler along southern and eastern coasts due to a light to moderate easterly breeze. Saturday night will continue dry, with lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees and light easterly or variable winds.

"Dry and sunny in most areas on Sunday, although some cloud will develop during the afternoon and evening, especially in the northwest. It will be warm with temperatures reaching between 21 and 25 degrees, but with an easterly breeze continuing, highest temperatures will be in the high-teens along southern and eastern coasts."

And that will keep going well into next week with no rain expected for some time.

The Met Eireann forecaster added: "Warm and mostly dry weather continuing for the rest of this week and through the Bank Holiday weekend.

"Current indications are that it will remain mostly if not completely dry up until and including Thursday. Becoming cooler as well although staying above normal temperatures for this time of year."
