Met Eireann forecast 'lovely' weather change on the way for St Patrick's Day after horrid weekend

While the majority of St Patrick's Day traditions have fallen by the wayside due to Covid, it's still likely to be a day that sees family heading out and about within their 5km zone.

And Met Eireann has said that the weather on St Patrick's Day is expected "to remain mild and dry with partly cloudy skies and highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees."

Renowned weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has said that we're set for a "lovely Saint Patrick’s Day" due to a front of high pressure that's still on track to arrive next week.

Despite this good news, the weekend is shaping up to be a bit of a write-off with hail and thunderstorms expected in parts of Ireland.

However, conditions will improve next week.

Monday night will be partly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle at times, more frequent in the north and northeast.

As for Tuesday, a sunny start to the day will continue throughout the day, but it will be chilly in the northern counties.
