Met Eireann forecast cold snap for two regions with temperatures dropping to -2C

Met Eireann has predicted below freezing temperatures to hit two regions today as frosty conditions move in.

Despite the sunny skies in Munster and Leinster, there will be plenty of frost forming overnight with lows of -2 degrees celsius.

However, general daytime forecasts for today show it will be dry with good spells of sunshine.

It will become cloudier later in the afternoon in parts of the north and west with the odd spot of drizzle developing.

The highest temperatures will range from 6 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly or variable breezes.

Fog and low clouds will persist in the south and southeast through much of the day on Thursday with a few brighter spells developing elsewhere.

It will continue to be mostly dry nationwide but there will be a few patches of drizzle possible near Atlantic coasts.

At night, temperatures will range from highs of 10 degrees during the day, to between -1 and +4 degrees.

On Friday, fog will once again be slow to clear through the morning and will linger for much of the day over the eastern half of the country, according to the Irish forecast.

Other areas will have a largely dry day with a mix of clouds, sunny spells, and a few patches of drizzle along western coasts.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees will once again be seen overnight, with patchy frost developing in the east.

Heading into the weekend then, Saturday will bring a mix of sunny spells, clouds and some patchy light rain at times.

Similar conditions will prevail overnight but towards morning drier conditions and more prolonged clear spells will develop.

Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees are expected with some patchy fog developing.

Finally, current predictions for Sunday suggest that it will be “dry with sunny spells although mist and fog may persist in parts of the south.”
