Met Eireann forecast big change in Ireland's weather with first week of summer in sight

Following a period of erratic conditions that saw a week of hailstones, snow and temperatures reaching 18 degrees, the conditions are set to improve this week.

While the period of recent high pressure will continue to dominate and shape Ireland's weather until the end of this week, it will also bring a good deal of dry weather.

However, conditions will gradually turn more unsettled over the weekend as an Atlantic frontal system crosses the country.

On that note, here's what to expect over the coming days.

Tuesday morning and afternoon

The mist and fog will clear, leaving a largely dry start to the day with sunny spells.

The cloud will return as the morning develops bringing scattered showers from the afternoon, some of which will turn heavy over Ulster later.

It's set to be warmer than previous days with the highest temperatures ranging between 9 to 13 degrees.

Tuesday night

Any remaining showers will fade away, leaving a dry night with clear spells.

However, it will become foggy in places overnight with reduced visibility. Stat warm because it's set to be chilly with the lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees and a touch of frost where skies stay clear.

Wednesday morning and afternoon

After the fog clears, we're set for a dry and bright day, with a few isolated showers in the north and east. Conditions will turn cloudier in the afternoon though but it's still set to be sunny with temperatures ranging between 10 to 13 degrees

Wednesday night

Staying dry with some southeasterly winds allowing mist and fog to form again, with fog becoming heavier in some parts overnight.

Thursday morning and afternoon

A bright and dry start with sunny spells. However, a few showers will develop in the east and southeast through the afternoon. The mercury will range from 10 to 14 degrees.

Thursday night

The dry conditions will remain with long clear spells. Cloud will begin to gather over the west and southwest as the night develops. The temperatures will be a bit warmer with the lowest temperatures rising to 2 to 6 degrees, coolest in the east.

Friday morning and afternoon

Yet again, a dry and sunny start to the day is set to occur. However, cloud will build from the west through the day and this will bring patchy light rain or drizzle to the western and southwestern coastal areas on Friday evening.

Friday night

A cloudy evening is expected with light rain and drizzle moving further into the western and southwestern counties. It's set to remain dry elsewhere with the lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.

Saturday morning and afternoon

A cloudy start is on the horizon with current indications suggesting that rain and drizzle will move across the western half of the country.

However, if you're living in the east, it's shaping up to be dry. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees, coolest in the west and mildest in the east.

Saturday night and beyond

Met Eireann is predicting that outbreaks of rain and drizzle will affect most areas on Sunday and Monday but any rainfall will be low.
