Met Eireann confirms weekend of snow as another big freeze hits

Ireland is set to be hit by snow for the weekend as yet another deep freeze falls across the country.

Met Eireann has said that the bitter conditions can be expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as temperatures fall to -4C.

Meanwhile, the Met Office in the UK has issued an official snow and ice warning for all of Northern Ireland, which is valid from 4pm on Friday until Saturday morning.

As for the Republic, the mercury is expected to plummet to a teeth-rattling -4C in parts of the country tonight, leading into a cold weekend with spells of snow and sleet.

Saturday will also be cold and frosty, with wintry showers leading to snow during the morning.

Met Eireann said that the rest of the weekend and start of next week will be cold with snow possible up until Tuesday.

It will be freezing on Saturday night with a band of sleet and snow in the west moving eastwards - leading to accumulations in many areas.

Another cold day is forecast on Sunday with sunny spells and scattered showers, mainly in the north and west where some will be of sleet or snow.
