Met Eireann confirm dreadful conditions this weekend ahead of positive turn in weather

Met Eireann has forecast unsettled conditions throughout the weekend with tiny bouts of sunshine expected in the North, South and East to break up the stormy conditions.

This afternoon will be filled with showery outbreaks of rain and drizzle - which is set to last into the evening - however, it will begin to brighten up from the north with drier conditions extending southwards.

Highest temperatures today will range from 10 to 14 degrees, in mostly moderate or fresh north to northwest winds, which will be stronger along exposed coasts.

There will be a dry and sunny start for most of the country on Saturday morning with scattered showers mainly hitting the west and northwest.

These showers will then extend across the country throughout the day, with some sunny spells peeking through in many areas.

Temperatures will be relatively cool all day long with highest temperatures of just 9 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate westerly breezes.

Unfortunately, Sunday will host another band of rain which will affect the whole country during the morning - clearing later into the day.

The afternoon will see brighter conditions, however, scattered heavy showers will continue - bringing the risk of spot flooding, lightning, and hail.

Temperatures will be colder than usual for the time of year with highs of only 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Looking towards next week, the Irish forecast has said early predictions show unsettled conditions continuing until midweek when things will settle down once again.
