Met Eireann ask public to 'take care' as strong sunshine hits Ireland

Met Eireann has urged the public to "take care in any strong sunshine" as Ireland gets set to bask in glorious weather.

The meteorological service has said that "UV levels are high in places" which means that suncream is needed for most people.

The national forecaster is also asking people to seek shade during midday hours, wear protective clothing and use suncream if they're exposed to sunlight for a lengthy period.

In terms of today's forecast, the majority of areas will stay dry with sunny spells this afternoon and evening, especially in the east.

It'll be cloudier in the west and southwest with isolated showers, becoming more frequent later in the day.

While not quite hitting recent highs, temperatures will range between 15C and 20C and will be highest in the east and northeast.

Tonight will be dry for much of the country with cloudy conditions in western counties bringing a little patchy rain or drizzle.

In terms of the overall forecast for the week, it's set to be warm and humid with the best of the sunshine today.

While there's set to be a lot of cloud and the odd shower too, temperatures are expected to reach 23C on Wednesday and Thursday.

Here's what's in store for the remainder of the week.

Tuesday morning and afternoon

The morning is set to be cloudy and dry for many places, the best weather arriving in the east and north.

There'll be patchy rain for western areas, turning heavy at times in the south later, before it moves further east through the evening. Highest afternoon temperatures will range between 16C in the south to 21C in the north.

Tuesday night

Tuesday night will be cloudy with rain and drizzle turning heavy and persistent at times, particularly in the north of the country.

Lowest temperatures of 13C or 14C with light to moderate southerly winds.

Wednesday morning and afternoon

The rain and drizzle will turn patchy through the day with sunshine gradually breaking through.

It's set to be cloudier in the west and northwest, with lingering mist and drizzle at the coast. Warm and humid, with temperatures of 17C to 22C, in moderate southerly breezes.

Renowned weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather is expecting Wednesday to be a bit warmer though.

He said: "A warm and humid week ahead with best of the sunshine tomorrow. A lot of cloud and the odd shower after tomorrow.

"Up to 23C from Wednesday but feeling warmer with the humid sticky weather. Next weekend still looks good but a lot of uncertainty after that."

Wednesday night

Once again, it's set to be cloudy with rain lingering around the south and west coasts. Elsewhere, it's set to be largely dry.

Thursday morning and afternoon

Warm, humid and breezy conditions are expected with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

The eastern half of the country will get drier weather with the sun breaking through at times. Afternoon temperatures of 17C to 23C are expected, the best of the heat will be in the east and northeast.

The west coast will see further rain and drizzle after dark, with the rest of the country staying largely dry.

Friday and beyond

After a cloudy start, the sun will emerge with the highest temperatures ranging between 15C degrees on the west coast to 22C in the southeast.

At present, Met Eireann has said that the "current indications suggest warm weather for next weekend."
