Mesut Ozil 'wanted' by Hull City and David Beckham as contract termination begins

Championship side Hull City are reportedly one of the clubs tracking German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil.

The playmaker joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce in January 2021 after a sour end to his eight-year stay in the Premier League with Arsenal. But he currently finds himself in hot water after being axed from the squad indefinitely for an alleged "verbal altercation".

The German was involved in a dispute interim manager Ismail Kartal. The club later tweeted: "Mesut Ozil and Ozan Tufan have been dismissed as a result of the decision taken. It'll be made public."

Diario AS, a Spanish paper, now report that Fenerbahce have begun the process of annulling Ozil’s contract and that a potential new destination is being lined up.

One of those listed is Hull City, who have a Turkish owner, whilst MLS side Inter Miami - owned by David Beckham - are another side name-checked. The 33-year-old would be an audacious coop for Hull, whose owner Acun Ilicali has big plans for the East Yorkshire club.

Ilicali, who took over the football club from the Allam family in January, has announced plans to take 500 supporters on holiday to Turkey this summer in what is a first for an English football club. Ilicali said a select group and their families will be sent on an all expenses paid, all inclusive trip to a five-star resort in Antalya.

Speaking shortly after his takeover was rubber-stamped, he said: “I cannot guarantee the future because with sports we cannot know the future, you cannot guess the scores, but I can guarantee you’re going to see the most craziest things owners have done in the history of football. We’re going to be a family, the strongest family in football.”

Ozil's last appearance for Fenerbahce came on March 20 when he was hooked at half-time in a 2-1 win over Konyaspor. He was left out of their squad for the 4-0 win at Kayserispor last weekend and is set to miss out again in Sunday's grudge match with fierce rivals Galatasary.

Ozil joined Fenerbahce in January 2021 after his Arsenal contract was mutually terminated. Prior to him being suspended, Fenerbahce's club president Ali Koc said last year: "Since the start of this season, Mesut Ozil has been compared to Robin van Persie. Ozil wants to play more.

"From now on, he needs to focus on his game and keep his commercial interests out of it. He needs to think about contributing to Fenerbahce. Our coach also needs to try to figure out how to get the most out of Ozil. There is not a problem, despite what the media says. Mesut is unhappy because he does not play regularly."

The midfielder still has 26 months remaining on his existing deal and is reportedly earning £3.5million-a-year at Fenerbache.
