Mesut Özil has been voted Germany national team player of the year for the fourth time.
The Arsenal playmaker was in outstanding form for his club during 2015 and has now been awarded for his performances for the national team as well. The 27-year-old played a big part in ensuring the world champions reached Euro 2016 and played in all but one international for his country.
Özil received 51,000 votes (45.9%) from Germany supporters to beat Thomas Müller into second place. FC Köln’s Jonas Hector finished third. Özil ran 92.17km in eight games for the national team in 2015 and made six assists, the most of any Germany player in the calendar year.
Germany’s next match is a friendly against England in Berlin on 23 March Joachim Löw’s side have been drawn with Northern Ireland, Poland and Ukraine in Group C for this summer’s European Championship.
