Mesut Ozil: Two men arrested following incident outside Arsenal star's home

Two men were arrested following a late night incident outside Arsenal star Mesut Ozil's home.

The pair, both aged 27, were arrested on suspicion of public order offences on Thursday night.

Ferhat Ercan, of Highgate, and Salaman Ekinci, of Tottenham, are set to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on September 6.

A statement from Scotland Yard said the two men have been charged under Section 4a of the Public Order Act.

Arsenal previously said both Ozil and his teammate Sead Kolasinac, would not play the side’s first match of the Premier League season due to “further security incidents".

The pair were targeted by car-jackers in north London last month, with security camera footage showing Kolasinac confronting the offenders after they approached Ozil's car.

The two players were unhurt during the incident in Golder's Green.

The Arsenal statement said: “Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac will not be part of the squad for our opening match against Newcastle United following further security incidents which are being investigated by the police.

“The welfare of our players and their families is always a top priority and we have taken this decision following discussion with the players and their representatives.

“We are liaising with the police and are providing the players and their families with ongoing support.

“We look forward to welcoming the players back to the squad as soon as possible.

“We will not be making any further comment on the matter."
