Mesut Ozil trolls Tottenham over Carabao Cup final loss to Man City

Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil’s allegiance to the north London club was on full display on Sunday as he reacted to Tottenham’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Wembley earlier in the day as Manchester City lifted the trophy for a fourth straight season. As a result, Tottenham’s 13-year wait for a trophy continued.

A late Aymeric Laporte header ended the stubborn resistance of Ryan Mason’s side, as the former Spurs midfielder took charge of just his second game since Jose Mourinho’s sacking last week.

And Ozil, who joined Arsenal in 2013 and won three FA Cups with the club before leaving for Fenerbahce this January, didn’t take long to revel in the misery of Tottenham fans.

“It remains dusty,” the 32-year-old wrote, referencing Spurs’ trophy cabinet.

The last piece of silverware won by Arsenal’s north London rivals came in 2008, when Tottenham lifted the League Cup.

Since then, Arsenal have won four FA Cups including last season’s, though Ozil missed out on a medal in that most recent triumph.

The former Germany international joined Turkish club Fenerbahce on a free transfer in January after receiving minimal game time under former team-mate Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
