Mesut Ozil told why Jurgen Klopp would never sign Arsenal star for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp would never sign a player like Mesut Ozil, because you can't be a "passenger" in his Liverpool midfield.

That's the opinion on Jamie Redknapp, who says if you're not prepared to run the length of the field and apply pressure off the ball, you're "not going to play" under Klopp.

Ozil has been criticised over the years for being 'lazy', despite possessing incredible technical ability.

On his day he is Arsenal's best player, but despite his quality, Redknapp isn't convinced he'd ever be considered by Klopp as, simply put, he doesn't work hard enough.

"The thing about Liverpool's midfield is that you can't be a passenger," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "Whoever plays in the midfield, if you don't run the length of the field and push and press, you're not going to play.

"Not because he's not skilful enough, but I'm on about every single game when you've got to go and win the ball back."

Ozil's career has seen many ups and downs, including winning the World Cup, but also representing one of the "worst Arsenal teams", as Redknapp puts it.

Still, the former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder reckons the German will look back on his career positively.

Redknapp continued: "It's not been easy as he's been around playing for one of the worst Arsenal teams we've seen in many years as well.

"Yes, his talented is unfulfilled, but he's won a World Cup. I'd have given anything to win that. When you see what he's capable of with his assists, could he do more? Absolutely, and there's a lot of frustration watching him.

"But he'll reflect on his career and think he brought a lot of joy to people and think he had a great career."
