Mesut Ozil "surprised" Arsenal team-mates and everyone has "respect" for him

Mesut Ozil surprised his Arsenal team-mates with how "humble" and "respectful" he is when he signed from Real Madrid.

That's according to Mohamed Elneny, who is good friends with the German.

Ozil joined Arsenal for £42.5million in 2013 among much fanfare, and Elneny admits he expected the German to be arrogant as he had signed from a huge club.

But Ozil has never seen himself as above Arsenal, and in fact surprised his team-mates with how humble he is.

"When Mesut joined from Real Madrid I thought he would be arrogant and full of himself after playing at such a big club," Elneny told Sabah.

"However, he is so humble and respectful.

"He never saw himself above the club. There are footballers playing at far smaller clubs who have got a far bigger ego.

"Mesut surprised me and my team-mates at Arsenal, everyone has respect for him."

Elneny joined Besiktas on a season-long loan from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Ozil helped the Egyptian with the move, and was apparently on hand to offer his team-mate advice.

"With Mesut we are like brothers," Elneny continued.

"Before I moved to Turkey he was who I spoke to, he assisted me, I could ask him anything and asked about Besiktas, he advised me on my transfer."
