Mesut Ozil sends message to Arsenal kids after they beat Bournemouth in FA Cup

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil congratulated Mikel Arteta's young team after they beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Monday night.

Arteta gave young players a chance to impress at the Vitality Stadium, and the Gunners boss was rewarded as his side beat their fellow Premier League side to set up a fifth-round clash away to Portsmouth.

Homegrown youngsters Bukayo Saka, 18, and Eddie Nketiah, 20, struck to secure victory over Eddie Howe's struggling Bournemouth.

And 20-year-old Joe Willock was involved in both goals as Gabriel Martinelli, 18, also got another start under his belt.

Arsenal saw out a nervy finish after Sam Surridge pulled a goal back deep into eight minutes of stoppage time.

The only downside for Arsenal was that Shkodran Mustafi had to be stretchered off after suffering an ankle injury, which will be assessed on Tuesday.

And Ozil, who remained on the bench for the game, hailed his young team-mates as he wished centre-back Mustafi a speedy recovery.

Ozil wrote on Twitter: "Great job guys. We made it to the 5th round. One sad news we had this evening... Get well soon."

Some Arsenal fans responded to Ozil's tweet by calling for him to raise his game or be dropped after a good performance without the former Germany international in the team.

One said: "Team played well without you, raise your level."

Another tweeted: "Your done in this team, ring beckham" in a reference to Ozil having been linked with the former Manchester United star's Inter Miami MLS franchise.

Another fan called for Joe Willock to play ahead of Ozil, writing: "Hand your no10 shirt to Willock - involved in both goals with 2 pre assists."

However, the majority of replies were positive towards Ozil, and the 31-year-old could return to the starting lineup for Saturday trip to Burnley, which is Arsenal's final game before the Premier League's winter break.
