Arsenal midfield Mesut Ozil has sent a message to the club's fans following the Gunners' Carabao Cup exit against Liverpool.
The former German international made just his third appearance of the season, after being named in the starting lineup for the League Cup tie.
And he impressed as he looked to make a point to Arsenal manager Unai Emery, being involved in the Gunner's early equalising goal and cleverly setting up Ainsley Maitland-Niles to then restore a two goal cushion.
The match was one that you couldn't take your eyes off, with goals flying in from left, right and centre. An added time equaliser from Liverpool striker Divock Origi meant that the game would be decided by spot kicks.
It was Dani Ceballos who was the unfortunate player to see his penalty saved by the Reds' goalkeeper, and that miss proved to be crucial in the final result.
Ozil was taken off with the scores locked at 4-4 in the 65th minute, a decision that didn't go down all to well with Arsenal fans .
Following the match, the player himself has taken to social media to give his thoughts on his first start in over a month.
"Crazy and incredible match," he wrote.
"Losing on penalties is always tough, but definitely some positive things to take away from Anfield Road tonight. Thanks for the away support! Focus on Wolverhampton now!"
The 31-year-old has played just 71 minutes of Premier League football this season, but will now be hoping that his performance against the league leaders will lead to him getting more game time.
