Mesut Ozil sends message ahead of Everton clash after missing Arsenal's win over Olympiakos

Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to congratulate his Arsenal team-mates following their win over Olympiakos in the Europa League.

The former Germany international missed the the first leg of the last-32 clash because his wife Amine Gulse is due to give birth.

The Gunners claimed a 1-0 win thanks Alexandre Lacazette’s second half goal in Athens.

And following the game, Ozil took to Twitter to write: "Congratsss my boooys! Important first step - still unbeaten in 2020."

Arsenal vs Everton odds

Arsenal's next fixture is against Everton on Sunday and it is currently unclear whether Ozil will be in contention to play with him and his wife expecting their first child anytime soon.

And speaking after the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was quick to echo Ozil’s comments.

"It's a really good result. First of all to win away in Europe but to come to a ground like this and win, credit to the lads,” he said.

"We suffered for the first 10 minutes, we gave the ball away too much and couldn't get any continuity in our play. In the second half, apart from the set pieces, we controlled the game much better.

"We could have put the tie in a better position. We had positions and chances where we'd expect the players to put the ball in the net.

"We're going game-by-game. There are a lot of things we want to improve. I still see things that mean we can't control the game and damage the opponent.

“But we are playing with a lot of commitment. We had three players with cramp, struggling at the end."
