Mesut Ozil sends honest message to fellow Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi

Mesut Ozil has urged Matteo Guendouzi to make the most of his time away from Arsenal after the Frenchman completed a loan move to Hertha Berlin.

Both Ozil and Guendouzi fell foul of Mikel Arteta in the latter months of last season, with the pair both cut from the squad and missing the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea in Wembley in August.

Neither played has featured under Arteta as the Gunners have started this season either, but while Guendouzi was actively linked with several moves away from the club, Ozil has shown little desire to move on and instead seems set to stay and see out his £350,000 a week contract.

The German tweeted shortly after Guendouzi's loan move was completed, with his message including the words: "All the best for you in Germany. Show them that you're a great football player. Will miss you here bro."

Guendouzi's move was confirmed on Monday (Hertha BSC)

Guendouzi's move to the German capital beat the Bundesliga transfer deadline, which stood at 5pm GMT for any incoming deals.

The Frenchman, 21, said: “The talks with the management convinced me that this is the right move.

"Not only do I want to develop further on a personal level, but I also want to help the club take the next step. I'm buzzing to start life in Berlin as a Hertha player!"

Hertha moved for Guendouzi after talks to bring the Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic back to the club on loan for a third season were unsuccessful.

Arsenal are closing in on a deal for the Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey after agreeing to pay the Ghanaian's release clause.
