Mesut Ozil's agent has clarified the situation regarding links to Fenerbahce and a potential move for the Arsenal outcast.
The attacking midfielder's contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of the season and it's no secret that the club have attempted to move him on in recent transfer windows.
Ahead of the January window, Murat Zorlu, who is a member of Fenerbahce's congress, revealed to Sport Digitale that he expects the German World Cup winner to sign for the 19-time Turkish champions at some point next month.
This scenario would be perfect for Arsenal as getting Ozil off the books allows them to be in a position to save £18.2m-a-year on wages and possibly fund moves for a couple of players in the 2021 summer transfer window
But Ozil's representative, Dr Erkut Sogut, has announced that the 32-year-old is likely to leave the north London outfit on June 30, 2021 - the date his contract officially expires - despite confirming interest from Fenerbahce.
"I would like to clearly state our situation regarding Fenerbahçe. Yes, we had meetings with Fenerbahçe. We had a one-on-one conversation with the club's most authorized people," Dr. Sogut told Fanatik.
"However, we can never have contact before January for official transfer talks. We received transfer offers for Mesut from all over the world.
"Fenerbahce's interest is also known.
"Nothing has changed for Mesut right now. Under these circumstances, it seems that Mesut will complete the season in Arsenal."
Dr. Sogut's statement comes after Arsenal technical director Edu hinted at a solution in January.
"I talked to him, Mikel talked to his agent, I talked to his agent about some possibilities, not fighting, just some things to try and help each other," Edu said via the Mirror. "The way we see his future at the club, the way we see him here. It’s quite clear.
"What makes me feel comfortable, which we treat the situation, man to man, no-one hides anything, and Mikel explained to you guys a lot.
"People might start to ask: 'what are you going to do in the winter window?' Of course we will try to do something but, listen, we have the responsibility to change it.
"Don’t wait for someone outside to come inside and be a magician because that’s not going to happen.
"Or if you can sign 20 players - which we’re not going to do - but that’s not going to work anyway."
