Mesut Ozil's agent tackles Arsenal transfer rumours: 'The situation is clear'

Mesut Ozil's agent has described speculation linking the Arsenal star with a January transfer window exit as "unfortunate", and insists that the German playmaker will remain in north London.

Despite signing a new long-term deal to become Arsenal's highest-paid player earlier this year, Ozil has been linked with a move away from the Gunners after failing to lock down a regular starting role under new head coach Unai Emery.

Ozil has struggled to nail down a consistent runs of games this season due to back injuries earlier in the campaign, with the 30-year-old also dropped by Emery in recent weeks due to "tactical reasons".

The World Cup winner spoke out on Twitter after Arsenal's 4-1 win over Fulham on New Year's Day confirming that he wants to return "as soon as possible" after revealing his injury frustration - the latest absence due to an unspecified knee problem - though rumours of a January exit continue.

However, Ozil's agent - Dr. Erkut Sogut - told Goal that the player's future lies with Arsenal, and emphatically denied any suggestions that the transfer speculation has emanated from Ozil's camp.

“Mesut joined Arsenal in 2013 and has therefore been a part of the club for longer than most of the current playing squad and even many members of staff, Dr Sogut said. "Over those five-and-a-half years, he has shown total commitment and professionalism.

“He has not spent long periods injured and maintained a high level of performance, as the statistics show.

"Despite what some may say, he understands the fabric and expectations of the club better than most.

“Unless you are on the inside and privy to what happens on a daily basis, it is best not to speculate.

"In every journey there are highs and lows, but it is important to consider the bigger picture rather than simply making knee-jerk judgements without proper context.

“The speculation around Mesut’s future has not come from him or us and is unfortunate because the situation is clear: his future is with Arsenal, end of story.”

Emery has remained coy in recent weeks regarding the long-term future of Ozil, and has repeatedly called on his No.10 to add consistency to his game this season.
