Mesut Ozil 'receives MLS offer' as Arsenal learn Dominik Szoboszlai transfer update

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Wednesday, December 9.

Mesut Ozil receives serious MLS offer

Mesut Ozil has reportedly received a 'serious offer' from D.C. United of Major League Soccer as he considers his future while sitting out the final year of his Arsenal contract.

Ozil has not featured for the Gunners since March and is widely expected to leave the club in January or at the end of the season when his contract expires.

And according to Turkish broadcaster NTV Spor via the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old has received an offer from D.C. United, Wayne Rooney’s former club.

Ozil can speak to overseas clubs from January when he enters the final six months of his contract. The report also says he is considering a move to Qatar, Italy or Saudi Arabia.

Aubameyang breaks silence following North London Derby defeat

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has broken his silence following Arsenal’s north London derby defeat on Sunday afternoon.

Aubameyang was largely anonymous in the 2-0 loss to Spurs and his leadership and character have been called into question after he once again went quiet following the defeat.

However, on Tuesday, he broke his silence on social media. Posting on Instagram a photo of him in training, Aubameyang said in the caption: “Don’t hide, Everyday question yourself, work, Never give up!! this is how we do!”

The striker has scored just two goals this season, one of which was from the penalty spot. This coming after signing a bumper new contract in the summer has seen questions arise regarding his commitment and work-rate. He is now seemingly trying to put that right.

RB Salzburg boss provides Dominik Szoboszlai transfer update

The RB Salzburg boss has revealed to CBS Soccer's !Què Golazo! Podcast that he expects Dominik Szoboszlai to leave in the January transfer window.

Jesse Marsch, who made similar comments to Grant Wahl earlier this year, said that he has loved working with the Hungary international, but admitted that their relationship is likely to end next month.

“Specifically with Szobo, we spent a lot of time going over individual videos and going over what his role was, how to be more dynamic, how to play our football, and I think over time we had a lot of fun together,” he said.

"I think he’s grown immensely over the last 18 months and it’s a source of pride for me, when I see that these young men are achieving all of the things I believe they can - not just in their careers, but in their life.”

Marsch compared Szoboszlai, who is of interest to Arsenal as a potential solution to their creative midfield problems, to Erling Haaland, who also left Salzburg this time last year, before adding: “Szobo, he’s likely to leave in winter - that’s the reality. He’ll have so many suitors and we went through this with Erling last year.”
