Mesut Ozil lifts the lid on his Arsenal spell and makes statement amid outcast status

Mesut Ozil has insisted he has enjoyed his time at Arsenal despite finding himself given an outcast status this season.

The World Cup winner was not registered for the Gunners squad in either the Premier League or the Europa League, with the Germany midfielder surplus to requirements in Mikel Arteta's squad.

With Ozil's contract due to expire this summer, a departure from Arsenal in 2021 is inevitable and could materialise in January with Fenerbahce and DC United among those vying for his signature.

It has been quite a fall from grace in north London for Arsenal's former club-record signing and Ozil would be forgiven for a sense of sour taste in his mouth.

However, asked by a fan on social media if he has ever enjoyed playing for the club, Ozil insisted that he did - and pointed back to a more recent example.

"Of course. There have been many ups and downs so far but all in all I've never regret my decision to join Arsenal," he replied.

"And to be honest, the last couple of games before the corona break in February and March 2020 made really a lot of fun.

"I've enjoyed that time a lot and I've thought we're really on a very positive way. But after the break things unfortunately changed."

Ozil does have fond memories to look back on his time with Arsenal, having won the FA Cup on three occasions during his time in England.
