Mesut Ozil joins Arsenal training ahead of Liverpool clash despite injury doubts

Mesut Ozil joined in Arsenal training on Tuesday despite doubts he will feature in the squad for the trip to Liverpool.

The Gunners head to Anfield on Wednesday night looking to bounce back from their weekend defeat in the north London derby to rivals Tottenham.

Ozil has not featured for Arsenal at all since the restart and has been left out of the squad completely for the last five matches.

Arsenal have claimed the German international has been suffering from 'back soreness', hence his lack of involvement, but he is now back in training ahead of the Liverpool clash.

According to the official Arsenal website, Ozil will be assessed prior to the match to determine whether he is fit enough to earn a place in the squad.

Mikel Arteta has previously insisted there is room for a "player of Ozil's quality" in his squad, even though the midfielder's time at the club appears to be coming to an end.

The Arsenal boss had previously opted not to use Ozil from the bench in some of their earlier fixtures following the restart, while he was omitted from the squad to face Man City for 'tactical reasons'.

Arteta gave nothing away though at his most recent press conference when asked if Ozil would feature again this season, stating "the situation is the same as it was".

The 31-year-old has already entered the final year of his contract at The Emirates, and continues to be linked with a transfer this summer.

Arsenal are keen to offload Ozil and rid themselves of his extortionate £350,000-per-week wages, but the player is happy to stay put until his deal expires next year.

Speculation suggests he could move to either Turkey or America as a free agent once his contract is up, with Fenerbahce and DC United two of the sides linked.
