Mesut Ozil injury latest: Arsenal boss Unai Emery unsure how long knee injury will sideline star

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Mesut Ozil has sustained a knee injury, but doesn't know how long the midfielder will be ruled out for.

On the eve of Arsenal's game against Liverpool at Anfield, reports emerged that Ozil - despite training on Friday - had been left out of the travelling party that made the trip up north.

It was suggested the 30-year-old had picked up a knee issue, which Emery later confirmed after Ozil did not feature in the Spaniard's matchday squad as Arsenal were comprehensively beaten 5-1 by Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday evening.

When asked if Ozil had missed out on the match because of injury, Emery replied: "Yes."

When then asked if the injury is serious, the Arsenal coach said: "[It's] His knee. I don’t know if it’s big or not big, but it’s his knee."

Arsenal next take on Fulham at home on Tuesday evening as the Gunners look to get back to winning ways - though the future of the club's highest earner Ozil remains in question.

After recovering from back problems, Ozil had been given an extended run in the Arsenal side in recent weeks.

But his latest injury coupled with Emery's reluctance to keep the midfielder on for the full 90 minutes of games against the 'Big Six' sides has led to speculation about whether the 30-year-old has a long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
