Mesut Ozil injury: Freddie Ljungberg says 'I wouldn't have picked him anyway' after show of dissent

Freddie Ljungberg has revealed Mesut Ozil would not have travelled regardless despite being ruled out of Saturday’s game at Everton with an injury.

Ozil was ruled out of the game at Goodison Park, Ljungberg’s last game as interim boss before Mikel Arteta takes charge, with an unspecified problem.

But Ljungberg explained that Ozil’s reaction to being hauled off in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City would’ve cost him his place in the side anyway.

The 31-year-old looked dejected as he traipsed from the field, before booting his glove down the touchline and refusing consolation from Per Mertesacker in the Arsenal dugout.

And Ljungberg explained to BT Sport on Saturday: “Mesut wouldn’t have been in the squad anyway given what happened in the last game.”
