Mesut Ozil facing uneasy reunion with former Germany boss Joachim Low at Fenerbahce

Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil could be set for an uneasy reunion with former Germany boss Joachim Low - with reports in Turkey suggesting that Low is poised to take over at Fenerbahce.

Ozil has rebuilt his career in the Super Lig after his time in the Premier League came to a messy last year.

He penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Turkish giants after his £350,000-a-week deal with the Gunners was torn up last January.

But his happiness at the club could be hampered by a reunion with Low.

According to T24, the ex-Germany chief is poised to end his exile from the game by taking over at Fenerbahce in the summer.

The 61-year-old has been taking a break after his exit from the German national team after they were dumped out of Euro 2020 by England in June.

His decision to step down after the tournament saw his incredible 14-year reign come to an end.

However, if Fenerbahce do appoint Low, then it could be uncomfortable for Ozil, who quit the national team back in 2018 after accusing the German FA of being complicit of 'racism and disrespect'.

Ozil had been pictured with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of the World Cup in Russia - sparking outrage in Germany.

And after the Germans were unceremoniously dumped out of the World Cup in the group stage, Ozil bore the brunt of the blame and became somewhat of a scapegoat after the snap emerged.

That led to Ozil quitting international duty for good.

But the prospect of an awkward reunion hasn't put Low off of taking over in Istanbul.

In fact, he even hinted recently that he's keen to link back up with Ozil - with the veteran coach believing that the pair of them can bury the hatchet.

"Mesut leaving the national team without consulting me beforehand was a great human disappointment for me," said the former Germany chief.

"The time will come when we will talk or meet again. At some point, the day will come when we will talk things out and put everything aside.

"These memories will then also be positive for us. He was an incredibly important and great player with great skills."

It remains to be seen if Ozil would be as keen on reuniting as Low.

The 33-year-old playmaker has been in sizzling form for Fenerbahce this term after struggling to make an impact after his initial switch last January.

Ozil has netted seven league goals and racked up another two assists during his 19 appearances this term.

But he hasn't been able to help Fenerbahce launch a title challenge, with the Turkish giants currently languishing in fifth spot and well off the pace at the top of the Super Lig.
