Mesut Ozil breaks silence on involvement against Fulham and sends message to Mikel Arteta

Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he is fit and available for selection for Arsenal's first Premier League game of the season against Fulham.

The former Real Madrid midfielder, who joined the Gunners back in 2013, has not played for the club since March 7, the final Premier League game before lockdown.

Reports have claimed the German could leave the club this summer, with his future at the Emirates seemingly in doubt.

However, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has vowed to wipe the slate clean for everyone ahead of the new season, meaning Ozil could be handed the chance to resurrect his Gunners career.

Matteo Guendouzi and Arsenal's sales

Ozil has returned to first-team training with the rest of the squad and took to the pitch in the recent 3-2 friendly defeat against Aston Villa, which suggest the German could be involved in some capacity against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

In a Twitter Q&A session with fans on Wednesday, one supporter asked: "Hey man, hope you doing well, are you fit to be played against Fulham?"

In response, Ozil said: "I’m fit & ready and doing my best. Unfortunately it’s not in my hands to decide about the squad on the weekend. We will see!"

The former German international was left out of the squad for the FA Cup final win against Chelsea in August, along with Matteo Guendouzi.

Asked why Ozil didn't feature, Arteta said at the time: “Pure football reasons.

“My only ambition is the best squad and the best players who give us the best opportunity to win the game.”
