Mesut Ozil breaks his silence after Arsenal finally make transfer announcement

Mesut Ozil's move to Fenerbahce has now been confirmed.

The 32-year-old had six months remaining on his Arsenal contract and had previously signalled his intention to leave at the end of the season despite not being included in the Premier League or Europa League squads.

But last week it was confirmed that he had reached an agreement with the Gunners to terminate his contract earlier then expected, thus meaning he was able to join Fener on a free transfer.

However, an announcement has been delayed until Sunday afternoon.

Although, the saga is finally over with Ozil's exit now being confirmed by the north London outfit.

And the former Arsenal midfielder has broken his silence by reflecting on his time at the Emirates Stadium, thanking technical director Edu and sending a message to the fans.

"I'd like to thank the club for this amazing journey over the past seven-and-a-half years," Ozil told Arsenal.com. "The support I have felt from the team and fans during my time here has been truly incredible and something I will always be grateful for.

"Together we won trophies for the first time in years and created memories that will last a lifetime.

"The Arsenal fans will forever remain in my heart.

"I’d like to thank Edu Gaspar for helping bring about a professional and dignified solution in the past few days, and I wish everyone at the club the best in their attempt to continue to bring Arsenal back to the top, where we belong."

Ozil has also penned a lengthy farewell message on social media.

This marks the end to a seven-and-a-half-year stay in north London for Ozil who won four FA Cups and three Community Shields in his time at the Emirates.

He leaves after registering 71 assists and 44 goals in 254 appearances.

Ozil could soon be replaced at Arsenal by Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard who is poised to join on loan for the remainder of the season.
