Mesut Ozil behind the scenes: Latest on Arsenal to Fenerbahce transfer as he departs for medical

It has been a momentous day in north London, with Mesut Ozil’s exit from Arsenal now just a matter of time.

football.london understands that Ozil has said goodbye to his team-mates at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground today ahead of a move to Fenerbahce.

The 32-year-old has reached an agreement with the Gunners to terminate his £350,000 per week contract and move to the Turkish club on a free transfer.

Ozil, who also spoke to MLS side DC United about a move, has flown to Istanbul to undergo a medical and even teased his transfer by tweeting a line from a song, saying: "Come Let Us Be Night With Day..." along with a sand timer emoji.

His move to Fenerbahce will end Ozil’s seven-and-a-half year stay with Arsenal six months before his contract was due to expire in June.

The German playmaker has not featured for the club since March 2020 and had been frozen out of the first-team by manager Mikel Arteta.

Following the news, football.london’s chief Arsenal reporter Chris Wheatley was on hand to answer supporters’ questions about Ozil’s move.

He provided in-depth details about Ozil’s pending transfer, offered insight into how it came about and reflected on the playmaker’s Gunners career.

Although his time at the club has ended on a sour note, with Ozil not involved in the Premier League or Europa League squads, his achievements remain impressive.

Ozil played 259 matches for the club since signing from Real Madrid in 2013, scoring 44 goals and providing 77 assists.

He was directly involved in three FA Cup wins in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and won numerous personal accolades during his time with the Gunners.

His time at Arsenal has now finally come to an end, so what do you make of Ozil’s move? Have your say the news in the on our commenting platform below.
