Mesut Ozil and wife welcome baby daughter as Arsenal star reveals adorable name

Mesut Ozil has shared a photo on his Twitter of his new daughter Eda after wife Amine gave birth.

The Arsenal star has been expecting his first child for some weeks having sought permission to miss the club's Europa League defeat against Olympiacos several weeks ago.

And the former Miss Turkey has now popped out the little girl.

Ozil said on social media: "Thank God our daughter "Eda" was born healthy. God willing us to be a good son to his environment and all humanity."

The Gunners playmaker is currently in lockdown along with the rest of the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the arrival of his first child will provide the couple with plenty of cheer in this testing time.

Arsenal's last game was a 1-0 with over West Ham on March 7 with Ozil starting in the middle of the park.

The German has made London his home since joining in 2013 from Real Madrid for a then club-record fee.

But the past 18 months have proved challenging following the departure of Arsene Wenger.

Nevertheless he retains the affection of fans, one of whom challenged Ozil to reply to a Tweet with a handsome reward on offer.

They said: "@MesutOzil1088 wife is expecting in july she said if i can get you to reply i can name the kid Ozil, dont let me down."

Ozil duly replied four days later with: "It's a deal mate. I don't let you down.

“Now it's your turn. I want to see the birth certificate of your kid in July."

By that time the Premier League season may still be ongoing following the indefinite break.

This summer though there is no guarantee Ozil will remain at the Emirates having regularly been linked with a move away.
