Messages continue to flock in for Liverpool fan with terminal cancer

Messages of support from scores of Liverpool players - past and present - are continuing to flood in for cancer sufferer Dave Evans.

The Reds fan, who moved to New Zealand last year, was forced to cancel a dream trip to Madrid for tonight's Champions League final after receiving a devastating terminal cancer diagnosis.

Instead the money earmarked for Madrid was moved to pay for his funeral.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp , current player James Milner and Champions League winning hero Jamie Carragher all sent video messages of support, as did Reds CEO Peter Moore.

While the message Dave was desperately waiting on, from his hero Steven Gerrard , arrived yesterday.

But even more messages have continued to be posted.

Former Reds favourites Steve McMahon, Ronnie Whelan and John Aldridge, all sharing a car journey together, posted a video message to Dave, as did Anfield legend Ian Rush, while Kenny Dalglish messaged: "Dave, fingers crossed Jurgen and the lads can lift Big Ears for the 6th time for you. YNWA."

Reds fans have also joined in. Andrew Whittle messaged: "God bless Dave. I'm not a famous football manager or a player. I'm just a Scouser who's rooting for you. Up the Reds."

Dave's wife Liz has replied to and reposted all of the messages.

"Thanks to Steve, Ronnie and John for this video. It means a lot to both myself and Dave," she replied.

While after the message from James Milner, Liz added: "Many thanks to StanCollymore and JamesMilner for this message to my husband Dave. I don’t think Dave can wipe the smile off his face. He’s so happy. YNWA."

Liz told the ECHO: "We want to say thank you to everyone, we feel uplifted and embraced and I am reading every message out to Dave even when he’s snoozing.

"He cannot believe the amount of messages from footie fans all over the world that have embraced us both. It's  heart warming, we feel loved, we feel supported and we feel we are with the squad as they are all in my hearts."

The couple thanked the Hamilton Hospice where Dave has been receiving treatment and said it had become "like home".

They also used the video to raise awareness of bile duct cancer, with Liz saying: "If we could highlight Cholangiocarcinoma and just one other person goes to their doctor because they don't feel well, request an MRI... just get checked, get your bloods done because this is not just about Liz and Dave it's about raising awareness for cancer."

She added: "We'd just like to say come on the Reds."
