Message from the chair

Welcome to the 2012 Megas – the Guardian Awards for Digital Innovation. These awards have championed a variety of digital innovations since their inception in 2008. Our past winners are testament to the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the UK's digital scene and include Videojug, the BBC's iPlayer, Scraperwiki, Shutl, and Fairshare Music to name just a few.

This year we have focussed the awards on entrepreneurial activity with awards for the Best Startup Business and Startup Leader. These awards, along with our Tech Guru and Young Innovator, are free to enter – and entering is simple via the online system. We're also looking for the most innovative new apps and websites; creative digital communications; and technologies for social change. Our impressive panel of judges, which includes Wonga's Errol Damelin, journalist Aleks Krotoski and serial entrepreneur William Reeve, will consider your submissions, and prizes on offer include the rare opportunity of guest editing MediaGuardian.

We look forward to receiving your entries and celebrating the best digital innovations of the past year.

Dan Sabbagh
head of media & technology, The Guardian
