
KUMA, Kumamoto -- A written message requesting immediate assistance was seen Sunday on the grounds of a nursery school in Kuma, Kumamoto Prefecture, which was hit by record-level rainfall.
A message reading, "120 people have evacuated to Konose Hoikuen nursery school," was written in large letters so that it was visible from a helicopter. The Kuma River, which runs about 200 meters from the nursery school, has flooded, and nearby roads were seen covered with mud.
