Meryl Streep's iconic role as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada might have won her an Oscar nomination - but it wasn't a walk in the park.
The 71-year-old actress revealed that playing the devilish Runway editor from the comedy starring Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt - made her "depressed."
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly 's July issue, where the cast reunited to share some behind-the-scenes secrets ahead of the 15-year anniversary, Streep explained that she attempted method acting, a common practice in the industry that sees actors embody their character both on and off camera.

Recalling what it was like to stay separate from the other actors, she said: "It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing.
"I was so depressed! I said, 'Well, it's the price you pay for being boss!'
"That's the last time I ever attempted a Method thing!" she added.
Co-star, Emily Blunt admitted she could tell that the actress found it hard portraying such a fearsome character as she often had to "remove herself" from the fun on set.
She said: "Meryl is so gregarious and fun as hell, in some ways it wasn't the most fun for her having to remove herself.
"It wasn't like she was unapproachable; You could go up to her and say, 'Oh my God, the funniest thing just happened,' and she'd listen, but I don't know if it was the most fun for her to be on set being that way."
But despite the tough time filming, Meryl's performance secured her 14th Oscar nomination - just one of 22 other nominations Streep has amassed over her 45-year career.
