Mervyn on Channel 4's Hunted is caught after returning to Bristol

Viewers were left dismayed as a pensioner became the first contestant to be caught on Channel 4's Hunted - after he made the risky decision of returning to Bristol.

Mervyn Little, 78, was apprehended near Bristol Temple Meads after taking a bus from Somerset during the second episode last night (February 20).

This year, the fugitives began their mission at the A Bond Tobacco Warehouse in Cumberland Road and all of them were able to evade the hunters and escape Bristol in the first episode.

However, after travelling across Somerset, Mervyn decided to board a bus back to Bristol in order to catch a train.

He may have got away with the high-risk move but his fate was sealed when a couple in a coffee shop told the hunters when he was heading.

After the hunters traced which bus he was on, Mervyn was promptly apprehended in Bristol, just round the coroner from Temple Meads.

Many viewers were left gutted by the development after having high hopes for him in the first episode.

Elaine Dodds said: "Can't believe Mervyn got caught so quickly. I was looking forward to seeing him outsmart them.

A second person said: "Shocked Mervin had no plan and actually did just go back to Bristol to jump on a train

"To the old couple who gave up Mervyn, shame on you. Shame on you!" another person added.

One person said: "I'm full blown devastated for Mervin.

"I feel like he's been cheated, all because that couple thought he was a conman!"
