Merthyr Town match abandoned after serious injury to opposition player amid wait for ambulance

Merthyr Town's match against Chesham United was abandoned on Saturday after a home player suffered a serious injury during the game.

Proceedings were halted when a member of Chesham's team was injured after 19 minutes of the fixture, which was taking place at The Meadow, in Buckinghamshire.

A decision was taken by the referee to abandon the game due to a long wait expected for an ambulance to arrive.

On their Twitter account, The Martyrs wrote: "GAME ABANDONED! Following the serious injury suffered by the Chesham United player, the referee has abandoned the game after 19 minutes played due to long wait ahead for the ambulance. Best wishes to the Chesham United player."

Southern League Premier Division South side Chesham also updated matters on social media, saying: "MATCH ABANDONED. Today's match vs @MerthyrTownFC has unfortunately been abandoned due to a serious injury to a player."

The game was goalless at the time.
