Merseyside woman facing jail for having two husbands

A woman from Merseyside is facing jail for having two husbands.

Sarah Evans, of Roseberry Grove in Prenton , pleaded guilty to bigamy yesterday at Chester Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Fraser Geekie told the court how 'custody is inevitable' for the 41-year-old, who first married Christopher Evans in the Dominican Republic in November 2009.

When her husband was jailed for a 'significant period of time' the couple separated in 2013 but did not get a divorce, reports Cheshire Live.

In 2014 Evans then married another man at Chester Register Office.

During interviews Evans confirmed this to be the case.

Prosecuting Rob Youds said: "She said she was told by a solicitor that she didn't have to get a divorce in the UK."

However a Facebook post in 2013 by Evans stated that her divorce was underway.

Mr Youds said: "She must have known she needed to be divorced."

Representing Evans Mr Ford of Cheshire Law said: "Over the last 16 months my client has been contacted by Christopher Evans about getting a divorce, threatening to go to the police."

Evans is of good character and has no previous convictions, the court heard.

Magistrate Fraser Geekie told Evans 'custody is inevitable' before adjourning the case to allow a report to be prepared.

Evans will appear at Chester Magistrates Court on 16th September for sentencing.
