Merseyside wedding venue's future in doubt after financial losses

A Merseyside wedding venue could be set to close as reports confirmed it is continuing to lose money.

Huyton's The Venue is run by Knowsley Council as an events space, offering room hire and wedding packages.

However the premises, previously called the Huyton Suite, has been losing money and Knowsley's cabinet will make a decision on its future next month.

Information on the site says The Venue continues to lose money and received an £87,000 subsidy from the local authority last year.

A Knowsley Council spokeswoman said that regardless of the decision that was made The Venue would stay open until the last month of this year.

A Knowsley Council spokesperson said “The Venue is currently operating at a trading deficit and the building will require significant financial investment in order to ensure that it remains fit for purpose.

“In the current financial climate, with funding from central Government continuing to reduce year on year, the Council cannot continue to subsidise The Venue and further investment in the building itself needs to be considered alongside other Council priorities.

“We are currently considering options, but no formal decision has yet been made.  Whilst options are being considered, The Venue will continue to operate as usual until at least the end of December 2019.”

As well as wedding packages and room hire, The Venue also has a cafe, The Bistro, that is open seven days a week.
