Merseyside town set for more than 30 affordable homes

More than 30 homes could be built in Tranmere, in plans which would see a former social club demolished.

Wirral Council has now approved outline plans for up to 31 homes on the site of the old Gladstone Social Club in Church Road.

The proposal, by Clay Rose Homes, could see a combination of flats and townhouses built in the Wirral town.

The Tranmere development comes in three blocks of homes, all of which will meet the criteria for affordable.

Block A will be formed of 13 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom flats.

Block B is made up of four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom flats, while Block C will contain four two-bedroom townhouses.

Before any work can begin, the plan must get full planning permission from the council, in addition to the outline permission it has now been granted.

The design and access statement shows that each flat will adopt a similar layout with an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area.

The developer believes this would provide an important social space for the young people the scheme is targeted at.

The site will contain 15 regular car parking spaces, along with four disabled parking spaces and a further eight parking spaces equipped with electric vehicle chargers.

Cycle stands will also be provided, with more than enough provided for one bike per household.

A key advantage of the site is that it has good access to public transport and local amenities.

Trees will be planted as part of the scheme to improve biodiversity, tackle climate change and create a more natural environment for future residents.

It is also located in an area Wirral Council has earmarked for development as part of its ‘brownfield-first’ strategy to avoid building on the greenbelt while hitting its house building targets.
