A Merseyside street has been decorated with bunting by its residents to show support for key workers - and it's already brought "the biggest smile" to one NHS worker.
Last Saturday, May 2, neighbours on Willis Lane in Whiston came together and connected their houses with metres of bright and colourful bunting.
The gesture was organised via a Whatsapp group, which was set up so residents could keep in touch and support one another during lockdown
So far, the new decorations have already attracted attention, with other residents even stopping to take pictures or wanting to do the same where they live.
Resident Gemma Dyson, 37, said she got involved as she thought it would be nice to participate with her three daughters.
She told the ECHO: "I'm self employed and at the minute I'm not working because of the coronavirus.
"To keep my three little girls busy I thought it would be nice if we got involved to do a few little bits.
"We started a Whatsapp group to make sure neighbours stay connected, so that they can have a chat and have help with anything they need.
"The purpose of the bunting is for key workers and NHS staff to show our support. We all come out on Thursday for the clap .
"It’s lovely the response it's had from people coming into the street. People have been stopping and taking pictures."
Gemma said the bunting was put up by neighbours Gary, Adam, Dave, Ste, Tom and Jan, but that all the neighbours came out to help and take part.
She said the street has also come together to donate food to go towards making parcels to be delivered to local families and the food bank.
Residents on Willis Lane will also have a "stay at home street party" this Friday, May 8, to commemorate VE day on their doorsteps to abide by social distancing.
Gemma said a local nurse recently saw the bunting and said it "put the biggest smile on her face and it's the biggest smile she’s had in a long time."
Gemma said: "That is our mission accomplished."
