Merseyside stabbing: Man knifed in chest, head and hand in 'targeted attack'

A man has been stabbed in the chest, head and hand in a targeted street attack, police said.

The victim, in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment after being found injured at around 5.50pm in Moreton, near Birkenhead, Merseyside.

His injuries are thought to be serious but not life-threatening.

A police cordon is in place at the scene and officers will carry out house to house inquiries in the area.

They are appealing for information to try and find out who was responsible for the brutal attack.

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping of Merseyside Police, said: "We believe that this was a targeted attack from our initial enquiries.

"But in these early stages of the investigation, it is vital to establish exactly what happened."

A local told the Liverpool Echo that a young man was helped by people who came out of their homes shortly after the incident.

She said: "They rang the ambulance for him and stayed with him until they arrived but I’m not sure how badly hurt he was."

The police statement said: "A man has been seriously injured tonight, in what would have been an awful incident to witness or hear about.

"If you were passing, saw the offender running off or anyone behaving suspiciously in the immediate vicinity, come forward.

"Home CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage or images may be vital as we carry out initial enquiries.

"We all recognise the risk, harm and often devastation that knife crime causes across Merseyside and beyond.

"Help us find who was responsible for this attack, and we can remove him and another dangerous weapon from our streets.

"Your information can and does make your communities safer, so let us know what you know."

The suspect is described as white, aged 25-30, 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, with a shaved head and receding hairline, and wearing a black top.

Officers will be in the Gabriel Close and surrounding area to carry out house-to-house, forensic, CCTV and witness inquiries, and to provide reassurance to the community, Merseyside Police said.
