A Merseyside school is set to close the majority of it's classrooms due to staff absences amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Co-op Academy Bebington in Wirral will be open to Year 11 and Year 13 students only from tomorrow, March 18, after a lack of teaching staff left the school unable to continue operating as usual.
Head teacher Ms C Kelly made the announcement on the school's website today, March 17, to inform parents and carers of the closure.
Contingency plans are currently being put in place for students including online resources and instructions for how they can learn from home.
Pupils who don't have access to the internet are being asked to collect paper resources from the school office by the end of today.
This comes after the government announced yesterday that schools in England should remain open for now.
In the announcement, Headteacher Ms C Kelly, said: "Students are expected to be in school today whilst we put contingency plans into place for home learning.
"As of tomorrow we will be open for Year 11 and Year 13 students only, as the closure is due to staff absence and we are therefore unable to cover classes safely.
"Please see the school website for online learning resources and instructions for how students can learn at home.
"Students who do not have access to the internet should collect paper resources from the school office by the end of today.
"Students who are already at home should either access online resources or come into school to pick up packs of work.
"I have the full support of the Co-op Academies Trust in taking this action, which has not been taken lightly but the safeguarding of our students is paramount."
