Merseyside's mass vaccine centre reopens appointment booking line

Merseyside’s COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Centre has re-opened its appointment booking line following last week's announcement that anyone over the age of 45 is now eligible for the vaccine.

The vaccination centre, at St Helens Rugby Ground, has already vaccinated tens of thousands of people from across the Merseyside and Cheshire region since it first opened its doors on January 18.

The centre, run by St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, can vaccinate up to 2000 people each day and is currently providing both first and second dose appointments.

Last week, the site also became one of only 21 vaccination centres in the country to start using the new Moderna vaccine, as well as the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

Those currently eligible to receive their vaccine include over 45s, health and social care staff, those classed as clinically extremely vulnerable and adult carers over the age of 18.

Today, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said that those in the eligible categories who are yet to receive their vaccination are being urged to contact the NHS and arrange their appointment at the St Helens centre as soon as possible.

This applies to those who live in Cheshire or Merseyside, who can call 01744 64 74 84, with lines being open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

You will will need your NHS number ready to make your appointment.

The first NHS large-scale Covid-19 mass vaccination centre in Cheshire and Merseyside is staffed by clinicians and a range of qualified volunteers.

Since opening in January, hundreds of people have already stepped forward to work at the centre, including those who have returned to their profession at this time of need.
