Merseyside's biggest babies - how big are Scouse babies on average and how does yours measure up?

The weight of a newborn is one of the first questions people ask, and often, the chunkier, the better.

Between 2017 and 2018, more than 2,000 “finished delivery episodes” recorded in Merseyside weighed at least four kilograms, or more, at birth - the equivalent to 8.8 pounds.

A finished delivery episode is where at least one baby is born - so twins or triplets may be excluded from the new NHS Digital figures.

From the 17,725 finished delivery episodes, the average weight for a baby girl is 7.3lbs (3.3kg) and 7.4lbs (3.4kg) for a boy.

Last year, we looked at some of Meet the BIGGEST babies born across Merseyside in 2018 , and some coming in at an eye-watering 12llb.

The rate was one in every eight in Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust and one in every nine in both Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust
and St Helens and Knowsley Hospital Services NHS Trust.
