Merseyside Police has urged people to report non-urgent incidents on their website as 101 lines are 'extremely busy' at the moment.

The force is currently receiving a 'high volume' of calls into their contact centre.

Police are already planning for a busy weekend in the city. Patrols have been stepped up ahead of the scheduled G7 conference, the Liverpool Vs. Aston Villa game on Saturday, and the many festive events taking place around Liverpool.
