Merseyside Police praise community following England defeat

Merseyside Police's Superintendent Diane Pownall took the time to praise the local community following the conclusion of England's Euro 2020 campaign.

The force thanked the people of Merseyside, who turned out at pubs and bars in town centres and Liverpool City centre for the final.

"England played their hearts out tonight and the country as a whole, including people across Merseyside, were right behind them enjoying the match," said Superintendent Pownall.

"The atmosphere across the region was fantastic and on the whole people adhered to the Covid restrictions in place and enjoyed the game safely.

"I would like to thank licensees across Merseyside who made sure their pubs and bars were Covid compliant and all the members of the public who showed why Merseyside is a great county.

"I would like to thank our officers, staff and Special Constabulary, together with our partners, including: Liverpool City Council: Knowsley Council: Sefton Council; St Helens Council; Wirral Council; British Transport Police; North West Ambulance Service; Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseytravel, for the planning and effort they have put in to ensure the success of this momentous event for the country."
