Merseyside group's picnic party broken up by North Wales Police

A group of people from Merseyside who travelled to have a picnic at a Welsh beauty spot have been slammed by police.

The group were discovered by North Wales Police's Conwy and Denbigh officers in the Betws-y-coed area of Conwy enjoying a picnic.

Officers said the group had been reported for breaching the coronavirus rules.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "We are trying to be proportionate with COVID regulations, so we have this week, advised and moved some on to where they came from but we couldn't ignore the two from Merseyside having a picnic on the green in Betws-y-coed.

"Reported for COVID breach."

The force also released two pictures which showed three people being spoken to by police, reports North Wales Live.

Current lockdown rules mean that people can only leave their homes for very specific reasons, such as working if they cannot work from home, shopping for basic necessities like food and medicine, and exercising.

Those who breach the rules can face fines and arrest.

On Thursday, it was revealed that up to April 27, North Wales Police had dished out  70 fines for people breaking the rules.

The force said that it showed the vast majority of people were complying with lockdown rules.
