Merseyside football unites as Everton fan supports Tranmere Rovers with kind-hearted gesture

In times like these, it can be challenging task to remain positive.

With the impact of the Coronavirus being felt in every corner of the globe, a testing few months ahead for everyone seems inevitable.

But there are many people remaining upbeat, trying to make a positive difference in any way possible.

In the world of sport, many lower league sides such as Tranmere will be hit hard by financial struggles—something recognised by a local, kind-hearted Everton season ticket holder.

In a letter addressed to both the ECHO and Tranmere Rovers, Blues’ fan- Dr Jan Sear, enclosed a cheque worth £40 to help out Rovers at this difficult time.

Recognising how the Whites will suffer in the coming weeks and months, Dr Sear encouraged others with the ability to help out to consider making a donation, however small, as Merseyside unites to lift spirits during what can only be described as unprecedented circumstances.

Explaining his stance as a fan of Everton, but also local football in general, Dr Sear’s letter begins as follows:

‘I am a season ticket holder at Everton FC, but also frequently attend Tranmere Rovers' home games. I have been an avid and active football supporter for over seventy years.’

He continued: ‘Because of the perilous financial position in which EFL clubs may find themselves as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus on lower league clubs (please note the recent problems at Bury, Macclesfield, Bolton and Oldham), I would like to encourage football fans in this region to take the following action if financially possible. Tranmere will lose the income from at least their next scheduled four games, so I urge you to send any financial contribution, however small, to the club in this time of crisis.

‘If readers have larger businesses, again, perhaps a contribution would be very much appreciated by what is a forward-looking and long-established institution, which is very much an integral part of the Merseyside professional football scene.

‘The address of the football club can be found on their website, or a phone call would allow you to make a donation.’

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Jan Sear (Dr.)

In a recent interview with the ECHO, Rovers' chairman Mark Palios expressed his gratitude and admiration for this gesture of goodwill.
