Merseyside drive through coronavirus testing centre returns today for three days only

A drive-through coronavirus testing centre has returned to Sefton today - but for three days only.

People with coronavirus symptoms will be able to get tested at a pop-up facility at Litherland Sports Park from today.

The mobile test centre will close on Saturday, June 27.

Anyone who is symptomatic of the virus will be able to get tested, however they will need to book for an appointment beforehand.

Sefton has opened other temporary mobile testing centres, with one at the Meadows Leisure Centre in Maghull and another at the Esplanade Park and Ride in Southport.

Supported by Sefton Council, NHS Southport and Formby CCG and NHS South Sefton CCG, the mobile test sites are providing clinical diagnosis tests to tell people if they currently have the Covid-19 virus.

Key NHS and care workers can also now attend regional testing sites, which now include the new site at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, as well as Haydock and Manchester Airport without the need for an appointment.

A spokesperson for the council said testing is "vital" to combat the spread of coronavirus.

They said: "Testing is vital to the ongoing work to overcome COVID-19 and enables key workers who test negative to return to that work.

"Almost 5,000 people have already been tested at Sefton’s mobile test sites."

Through the government’s NHS test and trace service, anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will be contacted and will need to share information about their recent interactions.

Sefton Council said the next scheduled visit for a mobile test site will be at the Southport Eco Centre from Sunday, June 28, to Tuesday, June 30.

Tests are available for anyone but they need to have made an appointment first at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

Essential workers still need to book through www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test-essential-workers.
