Merseyside coronavirus deaths spike but some positive signs

The number of coronvirus deaths in Merseyside has risen sharply though there is positive news for some areas.

There has been a rise in the number of people in the region who have died after testing positive for coronavirus.

The number who have died at Liverpool's hospitals after contracting the disease now stands at 124.

The vast majority of those died at the hospitals run by the Royal Liverpool Trust.

A further five deaths have been recorded in Wirral, taking the peninsular's total to 52 at present.

But Southport and Ormskirk Trust registered zero deaths, as their total remained at 38.

And there was one death at the trust covering St Helens and Whiston Hospitals making a total of 35 overall.

Warrington and Halton Hospital Trust recorded nine deaths, meaning 29 people have now died there after testing positive for Covid-19.

These figures refer only to the people who have sadly died in hospitals after being tested for coronavirus.

A further 866 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

Yesterday, the total number of people who had died in Liverpool hospitals was 113.

Only one death was recorded in Wirral yesterday, compared to the five announced today.

But whilst there had been four deaths reported yesterday by the Southport and Ormskirk Trust, today there were zero.

St Helens and Whiston Hospitals registered a further six deaths in yesterday's update compared to just one today.

However, Warrington and Halton Hospital Trust saw a rise from yesterday's registration of three deaths to nine being recorded today.
